A Gypsy’s Guide to Italy

September 14, 2019

Hi Ya’ll!

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted. There’s been a lot of changes that have transpired over the past year between my personal & professional life – I recently got engaged to the love of my life in April (more details below), took a risk & quit my job in May to pursue a Masters Degree in Human Resources as I wanted to pursue a completely new career path. As much as I love fashion to the core in my own personal life and as an outlet to express my love for all things fashion, I decided to make it as simple as that – personal. The Master’s program I am in is only a year – I graduate in April 2020 and get married in May 2020, so I’m excited to kick start my blog back up again because it feels like the perfect time to document all things related to planning my dream wedding, and writing & blogging has always been a passion of mine. SO with that being said – I wanted to give some major life updates that have happened within the last few months and exciting things I have coming up!

In June I went on the trip of a lifetime with my mom to Italy, just the two of us! It was seriously so special to have that time one on one with my mama, and I highly recommend doing a mother-daughter trip for anyone who hasn’t yet! We really created the best memories I’ll never forget and saw some of the most beautiful, breathtaking places. We flew into Rome were we spent a few days visiting all of the monumental attractions: The Colosseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, St. Peter’s Basilica, & more. Oh, and of course ate the most amazing Italian food. We then took a train to Naples to go and see the historic Pompeii ruins. From there we spent the rest of our trip in Sorrento (this way by far my favorite part of my trip). If you’re going to go to Italy and want to pick one spot – GO TO SORRENTO. We took a boat out to Capri, toured the Amalfi Coast, and again, ate some of the most AMAZING Italian food. Still dreaming about that.

I couldn’t end this blog post without quickly sharing one of the most memorable experiences of my life – my engagement! To give a recap, I knew it was coming within the near future but wasn’t sure exactly when (although my family isn’t the best at keeping secrets, so I was catching on to the fact that it would happen the weekend that it did). So YES – my nails were painted. My now FIANCÈ and I had a trip planned to go to NYC for his birthday in April and stay at my dad’s apartment. While I was planning a surprise for his friends and parents to fly up from Florida, Dusty was also planning one of the biggest surprises for me simultaneously. Friday night we celebrated his birthday with the success of surprising him with several of his friends and parents. Saturday we spent the day out and about and then got ready for what I thought was just a big continuation of celebrating Dusty’s birthday with family & friends. When Dusty asked me to grab a picture on my dad’s apartment rooftop I KNEW something was up, because let’s be real, Dusty hates taking pictures for the most part. Sure enough, we went up to the roof and he got down on one knee and proposed! My dad & brother Sean (who also surprised me) had an iPad set up to record the whole thing. Dusty had surprised me with my mom, grandma, and aunt being there to celebrate. When we walked over to the bar I had initially thought was for Dusty’s birthday, it was all of our loved ones in one place cheering us on as we walked in – it was incredible! As we walked in Dusty said “there’s one more person here that you don’t know about” – one of my best friends from Los Angeles had flown to NYC to surprise me. It was truthfully the best night and weekend of our lives! We felt so loved and just over the moon happy. We couldn’t be more excited to plan our dream wedding in Amelia Island, FL in May of 2020. I am dress shopping at the one & only Kleinfeld in NYC in a few weeks – SO excited. I can’t wait to take you all along on the journey of everything that goes into this magical year for me.
